⏱ CBAM on your 2026 imports is paid in 2027: certificates on sale from 1 February, declaration due by 30 September · Work out how much to put in your price →

CBAM calculator · EU Reg. 2023/956

Price your CBAM before you quote.

Upload your non-EU producer's offer or your sales opportunity: CBAMeter calculates the CBAM cost line by line, shows you the cost per tonne, the minimum mark-up to pass on to your customer and how much to set aside for 2027. Based on that offer's own data, not on an average of past imports.

The problem

By the time the customs declaration arrives, you've already set the price

📅

CBAM comes after the sale

You quoted the customer in March, the goods clear customs in June, you buy the certificates in 2027. If CBAM wasn't in the price, you pay for it.

🧮

An average is not an offer

An average of past imports doesn't tell you what this offer, from this producer, will cost. And Excel doesn't cope with a hundred lines and ten suppliers.

⚠️

The default is the worst case

EU default values are built never to understate, with a mark-up of 10% in 2026, 20% in 2027 and 30% from 2028 (1% for fertilisers). Quote on defaults and you risk pricing yourself out of the market.

How it works

From offer to price in three steps

Upload the offer

Your non-EU producer's offer or the bill of materials you're about to quote, as it is: PDF, Excel, Word, email or pasted text. AI infers the CN code from the description and, for tubes and bars, the weight from the dimensions.

Read the CBAM cost

Line by line, at the ECB exchange rate, with scenarios on the certificate price. You see how much CBAM is in the offer, the CBAM €/t and, when you sell, the minimum mark-up in % to apply to your customer.

Attach it to your quote

A PDF or Excel report, in English or Italian, with the formula and assumptions spelled out: your customer sees where the number comes from.

Actual emissions and producer comparison

Your supplier's real cost, not their country's average

If the producer has emissions verified by an accredited verifier, CBAMeter uses them, already today, per producer and per installation; otherwise it uses the EU default for their country. When a producer's emissions change, the linked customs declarations are recalculated in one go, with a change log (Pro plan).

And within the same simulation you compare up to 8 origins (Pro plan; 2 with Starter): a specific producer or one of its installations, a country at default values, an EU purchase, or a line-by-line mix. CBAMeter highlights the origin with the lowest CBAM and the one with the best goods + CBAM cost. Like a comparison site, but for your steel purchase.

The dates that matter

2026 CBAM is paid in 2027

SINCE 1 JAN 2026

Definitive period, under way

Above 50 t/year the full obligation applies: the 2026 cost is building up right now, declaration by declaration.

SINCE 31 MAR 2026

Authorised CBAM declarants only

Importers who applied for authorisation by that date keep importing while the decision is pending. Without it, above the threshold, goods stop at customs.

1 FEB 2027

Certificates on sale

Price pegged to the ETS: for 2026 it is the quarterly average published by the Commission (latest: …/tCO₂e, …).

30 SEP 2027

First annual CBAM declaration

Covering the whole of 2026, with the surrender of certificates. The preparation starts now.

And from 2027 the pace changes: the certificate price becomes weekly, and at the end of each quarter you must already hold certificates for a share of the current year's imports.

Frequently asked questions

Before you even ask

What makes CBAMeter different?

It starts from the producer's offer or your sales opportunity, uploaded as it is, and calculates CBAM before you quote your customer, so it goes into the price. Line by line, with several producers or countries side by side and a report to attach to your quote. Then, when the goods arrive, it reads the customs declarations and prepares the numbers for the annual declaration.

What data is the estimate based on?

On that offer's own data: product, CN code, weight, origin and producer, not an average of past imports. If the producer has verified emissions, it uses them; otherwise the EU default for the country, with that year's mark-up.

How much should I set aside for 2027?

The provision report (Pro plan) adds up the CBAM cost of all the year's imports, separating the part on verified emissions from the part at default values. That's the figure to book.

Who is subject to CBAM from 2026?

Anyone importing CBAM-sector goods into the EU (iron/steel, aluminium, cement, fertilisers) above a combined 50 tonnes per year; for electricity and hydrogen the threshold does not apply. Below the threshold you're exempt, but it pays to keep an eye on it: exceeding it without authorisation blocks your imports.

How do I know if I'll exceed 50 tonnes?

CBAMeter adds up the weights of all your CBAM customs declarations for the year and emails you at 80% of the threshold and when it is exceeded. For a rough order of magnitude on a single import, use the free calculator; the exact running total for the year is in CBAMeter.

Is my data safe?

Each company sees only its own data, isolated at the database level and not just by the application; data and AI stay on servers in the EU; payments are handled by Stripe. Full details on the Security page.

Does it replace my customs broker?

No: it saves them time. CBAMeter prepares numbers and documents that your advisers validate in a fraction of the time. Customs brokers can use it for their own clients through the partner programme.
